Do you want a CPZ?

Councillors let us down
I want to add my concern to the underhand way in which the staff of the Council keep pressing for us to have the parking zone where it is not needed and not wanted. I do accept that bureaucracy has a natural tendency to expand and it will do all it can in the process. It means more income, more staff, more work, more prestige to those who run things. We have occasionally (not often) lack of spaces in the area of Elmwood/ Danecroft/ Frankfurt/ Beckwith roads but that is of the same staff own making. When the Charter was established, at various meetings we were promised that there would be car spaces for the staff within the site. But the staff of the Council lied to us. There are about 5 or 6 spaces inside the complex and I assume the senior staff take them or perhaps staff who work unsocial hours, like the kitchen staff, and thus come very early. It is the need to find perhaps 30-40 spaces during term time that causes problems, but they are not that serious that the sledge hammer of CPZ needs to be used.
The way you Councillors let us down in the face of our regular fights against the power of the staff of Southwark, which is already by a long way one of the worst councils in the country is not very conducive to gaining our respect for politicians in general. It is only thanks to those few people who have the absolute determination and the time to fight you that we discover the genuinely undemocratic nature of council activities.
Yours sincerely, with regret,
Benny Dembitzer Elmwood Road
