CPZ may be introduced on street by street basis even if majority vote against

'The results of the consultation, combined with the views of the community council and the parking occupancy surveys will help determine whether or not a CPZ is introduced (subject to second stage consultation) in some or all of the area.

If a decision is made to go ahead with introducing a CPZ, we will carry out a second consultation with all residents and businesses in the roads concerned to determine the final parking layout before works begin.'

A devious attempt to introduce a stealth tax

I live in Beckwith Road London SE24. I strongly objected to CPZ the last time Southwark Council tried to impose it. Please tell me why Southwark is continuing to plague us with this issue against the wishes of the majority of local residents?  Is this a devious attempt to introduce a stealth tax just before christmas?

I repeat the reasons why I strongly object to the CPZ are as follows.

1. The hardest time to  park On Beckwith Road is Sunday and in the evenings.

2. The cars all belong to residents not commuters.

3.It is very easy indeed to park during the weekdays.

3. Many households have more then one car so it is the residents themselves who are creating the problem.

4. CPZ will have a negative environmental impact for several reasons

a, more people will turn their front gardens into parking spaces. This has already been happening in other CPZ zones to the detriment of the look of the street and natural habitats. In the end it only serves to encourage even more cars onto the street.

b, people who are working from home will be penalized for having any client/visitors who may incur parking fines. It is greener to work from home and in a recession it is essential not to hamper local enterprise however CPZ would damage these people's livelihoods as it has done with shops.

I would like a full and proper response from Southwark as to why they are continuing to try to introduce CPZ when we have already said a resounding NO?

I would also like Southwark to withdraw this planning application immediately because it will not achieve any of the reasons that they state in their cute little designer 'CPZ booklet', no doubt paid for from our council tax!  CPZ will merely inconvenience local people, adding yet another cost onto struggling households.

Yours sincerely

Jane Langley
